Literacy & Alphabet Toys

When you are trying to develop your children into the kind of people you’d like them to be, there are a lot of things that you need to consider along the way. In particular, you need to make sure that you have all of the appropriate tools for being able to do so, as otherwise you can’t really hope for your children to develop in the way you would hope. Many of the best such tools are those which are particularly educational while also being especially fun, and there are many of these that you might want to consider if you are trying to encourage certain educational values in your children.

Fortunately for the keen parent, we have plenty of such toys and resources which you can use to bring about a better development in your children, ranging from birth to five years old, Let’s look at some of the specific alphabet toys and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) literacy resources that you might find useful in helping your kids along.

Picture Books

One of the most important tools that you will possibly have when encouraging your children’s literacy is, of course, the books themselves. What is especially important in encouraging your children’s ability to read is that you read to them a lot while they are young. And of course, to do that, you need a good range of the right kinds of books, so that you can make sure that you are going to keep them interested, but also that you are going to enjoy the process as much as possible yourself.

In particular, you will want to make use of our great range of picture books, which are the best way to encourage your children to read from a very young age. These books are all aimed for children in the birth to five years category, so you can be sure that they are all appropriate for your needs. They also vary greatly in the kind of stories they tell inside their colourful pages, and you can be sure of having something a little different every time. There is something joyous about having a great selection of picture books to choose between when you are reading to your children, and not just because it means that they are more likely to develop wide-ranging understand and literacy skills. It’s also just a way to ensure that the whole process is much more enjoyable for the both of you, which is just as important as getting as much as possible out of the process in terms of literacy.

Browsing through our picture books, you should find that there are plenty that will take your fancy and capture your child’s imagination. Take a look now, and you should be able to decide on a few that you can start reading to your children as soon as possible. The sooner you start to do so, the better, and the more of a fully developed reading ability they are likely to have.

Sensory Wall Panel

It is also a good idea to seek out a few different items beyond just the picture books, as having a variety is going to mean that you can expect your child to develop their skills even more. In particular, it’s great if you can get a hold of some more hands-on sensory toys, as these are known to be particularly good for developing communication skills. The thing about communication, of course, is that it happens in the real world with real people, so the more you make it about real people the better. Certain toys and products have a great way of encouraging that kind of outwardness of communication, and the interactive wall panel is a great example of this.

It is a large and visually captivating item, so it will immediately capture the attention of your child in a way that will draw them in. it is particularly well-suited to the development of hand-eye coordination, as well as motor skills. These skills are hugely important in the wider development of your child’s communicative skills, so clearly it is very important to think about getting something like this wall panel. Possibly the best thing about this toy is that it provides a number of problems to solve, as well as encouraging you and your child to talk about those problems and solutions along the way. That is a hugely rewarding and satisfying communicative skill to develop, and an important one. You should consider an interactive panel such as this something of an essential.

Flashcard Kit

Speaking of that interactive element, we also offer a number of other products based around a similar idea. In particular, one that many parents find especially useful in trying to develop communication in their children is the use of a simple but effective flashcard kit. This is actually a deceptively powerful early years resource, and one that you might want to consider an essential for your toy cupboard at home.

What is particularly enjoyable and wonderful about this kit is the way in which it encourages children to learn to write, gradually, by starting out from tracing words and slowly moving on to more and more complex tasks. It also includes cleverly chosen visual images in the backgrounds which will help your child to focus as they are learning. If your child has a particular difficulty with focusing, then this might be music to your ears. This kit is very good at teaching your children how to write letters in the right sequences of strokes, an important early development communication skill which we all need to learn at some point or another. Clearly, it’s going to be another really useful thing to have at home as you try to encourage such skills in your young children.

Alphabet Puzzle

The alphabet toys themselves are especially powerful, of course, as a means of teaching your children to communicate with language well. That is obvious enough if you think about it – after all, without learning the alphabet as well as possible, your child is going to struggle to communicate properly and effectively, especially in the written sense. Of all the EYFS literacy activities, learning with the alphabet might just be the most important of all. The good news is that we have plenty of toys for you and your children to play with which incorporate the alphabet, notably the alphabet puzzle.

This is a bright and chunky, fun looking puzzle which your child is absolutely going to love playing with and putting together. Along the way, they will learn to recognise the uppercase alphabet to a degree that you will find astonishing, and particularly fast too. It really is a useful toy if you are trying to encourage that kind of communication skill in your young child, so consider picking up this puzzle today.

As you can see, there are plenty of toys here that you might want to consider buying in order to help your EYFS child develop their literacy and communication skills. Any of these are going to be hugely helpful, but if you get a few and try them all out you will find that it is especially effective on the whole. In particular, be sure to show patience, and to have fun with it. If your child sees you having fun with the project in hand, then they are more likely to have fun with it too, and that will result in a much more successful outcome at the end of all that play.
