Barefoot Books – Catch That Goat! A Counting Tale from Nigeria (Picture Book)

Ayoka has been left in charge of the family goat, but within minutes it has vanished! As Ayoka searches the streets of town, she sees how much trouble a runaway goat can cause among the market stalls. One thing after another disappears, and when Ayoka finally catches up with the goat, she finds more than she had bargained for. Polly Alakija’s bright, detailed illustrations perfectly capture the vibrant bustle of a Nigerian street market. Children will enjoy counting the missing items as they help Ayoka find the goat on each page. Boisterously funny and authentic, Catch that Goat! is a unique find!

This extended edition includes additional pages of maps and cultural information about Nigeria and the Yoruba language.

Reviews:

‘On opening this book there is immediately a wonderful impression of colour, pattern and movement created in the first few pages and one already feels transported to Africa – a foreign land… The book is a joy to read and participate in. It is full of interest and entertainment for young children.’ —Montessori International

‘The detailed illustrations capture the hubbub and diversity of African town life so that, besides the story about a runaway goat, there are also lots of interesting talking points.’ —Nursery World

‘Where is Ayoka’s runaway goat? Join her as she hunts high and low among the hustle and bustle of a Nigerian street market, following the goat’s trail of destruction and counting backwards from ten to one as she goes.’ —Junior Education
