Barefoot Books – Bear in a Square (Board Book)

Share the adventures of a big, friendly bear as he wanders through all sorts of familiar places, discovering different shapes along his way. In these pages, you will meet bear at home, at school, in a swimming pool, in the park, in a cave and at a circus. Look very closely and you too may be able to find squares, circles, triangles, zig-zags and even stars hidden in the pictures. With its vibrant art and jaunty, rhyming text, Bear in a Square also offers a fun-filled and exciting way of learning to count from one to ten.

Awards: Tillywig Toy & Media Awards 2017 and the Parents’ Favorite Products Award Winner

Reviews:

“A shape identification book with a difference….The reader is invited to hunt for particular shapes within lively colourful double page scenes. The illustrations are naíve yet effective and the appealing bear, who appears throughout the book, adds an imaginative dimension to the pictures. Each page is rich with pattern and presents frequent opportunities for counting… The successful combination of elementary maths and language concepts would make this book a useful resource for both literacy and numeracy sessions” – Early Years Educator

“What makes this find-the-shape-on-every-page picture book so appealing is that it works on so many levels” – Independent on Sunday

“Children will immediately warm to Bear in a Square…[they] can explore this book at many levels and will find something different each time they read it” – Nursery World

About the Author

On good days, Stella Blackstone lives east of the sun and west of the moon. On less good days, she lives at the bottom of a well. She finds ideas in all of these places and turns them into songs, poems and rhymes. She has read and written poetry for as long as she can remember, and her favourite books include Louis Untermeyer’s A Child’s Treasury of Poetry, which was a constant companion throughout her childhood, Paolo Coelho’s The Alchemist, everything by T.S. Eliot, and William Buck’s translation of The Ramayana. She lives in southwest England, and enjoys walking and working in her garden as well as doing nothing whenever she has the chance. Debbie Harter was born and raised in England, and she currently lives in Penzance, Cornwall. She has participated in all kinds of artistic ventures, creating jewelery, textiles, ceramics, mirrors and candles. Now Debbie works primarily in book illustration, and with her bold and vibrant style, has created many of Barefoot Books’ most successful titles, including Herb, the Vegetarian Dragon (1999), The Animal Boogie (2000) and the best-selling Bear series.
