Play is one of the most effective ways a child learns, whether on their own or with other children. Without even thinking about, children absorb so much about the world around them and start to understand how it all works. As children start to understand more and more, their self-confidence begins to build and they feel a greater sense of independence. By learning through play, children have the opportunity to make mistakes and move on without feeling unduly pressured or self-conscious. They can simply have fun. To maximise their chances of learning new information and skills, we would recommend that you have a look at our educational toys for 5 year olds.
Language Educational Toys For 5 Year Olds
Extensive research has demonstrated that it is easiest to learn a language when you’re still a child. As we grow older, we start to lose that innate curiosity and desire to learn that we had as children. To put it simply, children are like sponges! They are more than capable of learning more than one language at a time. Letters and the alphabet are the building blocks of language. Without them, we can’t even begin to write down words or sentences, or have a guess at how to pronounce a word. To help children get to grips with the basics, bilingual language toys, such as spinning blocks, have letters of the alphabet in different languages on each side. Your child can simply flick between the two languages, unaware of the complex nature of the information they are taking in. Before a child learns to write, it helps if they know what the letters look like. A puzzle board will not only help improve their fine motor skills but also get them used to the shape of the unfamiliar letters. Once a child knows what each individual letter looks like, they can start to practice writing them out. To get them started, give them a set of letter templates to draw around. They can mix and match the letter templates to form new words.Numeracy Educational Toys For 5 Year Olds
Once a child has learnt their numbers, they can start to develop more complex mathematical skills like addition, subtraction, times tables and telling the time. Using weighted counters, children can visually see as counters are added or removed from a group, and so can start to understand basic mathematical concepts. They can also arrange them according to colour or in a certain pattern. Our weighted counters are available in a wide range of fun shapes so you can choose the one most likely to hold your child’s attention. An alternative to using weighted counters is an abacus. Used by adults and children alike for hundreds of years, an abacus is ideal for learning to add and subtract. If your child is ready to tackle division and or fractions, they could use our dividable fraction blocks. These will give them an understanding that something that appears to be whole can actually be split into smaller pieces. Telling the time is a crucial life skill that every child needs to learn, but we want to make it as fun and easy as possible. We would always recommend using a teaching clock over a real one as then your child can move the hands themselves, without having to turn a fiddly dial.Geography Educational Toys For 5 Year Olds
Children are incredibly curious and love to explore the world around them. Why not start to introduce the idea that is even more to discover outside of their own surroundings? A puzzle map will help to give a child a sense of living within a certain country or continent, and they can start to pinpoint roughly where they live. Similarly, you could use a globe to demonstrate how big the world is and show them places that they might have visited. One aspect of geography that children can easily experience in real life is weather. At 5 years old, children can tell the difference between a hot sunny day and cold rainy one. With our magnetic weather images, they can start to build weather charts of what they’re experiencing outside. Educational toys for 6-year-olds are worth exploring as children approach their 6th birthday.
